Background
The Newcastle Hospitals is one of the largest and most successful teaching hospitals in England, yet one of the biggest challenges facing healthcare providers today is the training and retention of a workforce that feels valued and encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge.
In line with the NHS People Plan (2020) we are committed to supporting and developing our staff whilst ensuring our Trust is recognised to be the best place to work.
One of our key priorities is to enable every member of staff to be the best they can be by liberating their potential through high quality education and training and continuing professional development (CPD).
Our ambition
In our quest to be recognised as the employer of choice and anchor organisation for the design and delivery of education and training for the health and care workforce in the North East, we are passionate about harnessing innovative approaches ensuring that staff can access a diverse range of lifelong learning and leadership opportunities whilst creating an environment where all staff feel welcome and respected.
To meet our objective of supporting our staff through excellence in education and training we have created the Newcastle Clinical Skills Academy which will consolidate our current education and training offers and support the development of new courses and programmes, some of which will be available to external delegates and offer income generation opportunities.
Our aim
The aim of the Academy is to lead the design and delivery of a 21st century curriculum to equip our NHS workforce with the skills, knowledge and expertise needed to ensure we can deliver excellence in service provision and the highest quality patient care.
A key part of the Academy’s website will be the wide-ranging prospectus of courses and programmes guaranteeing high calibre, recognised and transportable qualifications with certificated learning outcomes.
All courses will meet the standards set out in the Academy’s Quality Assurance Framework and some will be accredited and/or endorsed by higher education institutions, professional bodies and charities.
It is our ambition that the Academy becomes an income generating platform by developing a regional and national offer in line with Health Education England’s aspiration that CPD funding is best spent within the NHS.
