SUMMARY:Constraint Induced Movement Therapy for Preschool Children - November 2026
DESCRIPTION:This two-day course introduces therapists to the One-Handed Therapy Intervention (OTI) Programme – a unique toolkit for families who have a child aged 2-4 years with hemiplegia.  \nConstraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) is a highly evidence based\, complex intervention to improve hand function of children with hemiplegia. \nThere is no current comprehensive resource to give parents/carers step-by-step instructions on how to use activities to target their child’s goals through CIMT. \nThe OTI toolkit addresses this by providing therapists with: \n\nlibrary of graded\, play-based activity cards\,\nuser manuals\,\ntherapy diary\,\nattractive restraint\,\nmotivational resources\,\nfollow-up bimanual programme\,\ndigital record keeping tool.\n\nThe OTI toolkit ensures that therapists have all the pre-prepared components needed to quickly and easily compile an effective evidence based CIMT programme\, that can then be delivered by families and staff in early years settings. \nThe resources that are given to families are designed to support them to successfully implement the programme. \n\nExcellent. Given me lots of research based evidence and strategies to support a case for a new well needed service within the trust. SUMMARY:Methods of Wound Debridement - November 2026

SUMMARY:Paediatric Palliative Care Study Day for Hospice Staff - December 2026
DESCRIPTION:This face to face course led by the regional Children’s Holistic Integrated Palliative Care Service (CHIPS) is designed to support staff working in hospices caring for children across the North East and North Cumbria. \nIntroduction\nPaediatric palliative care is about promoting the best possible quality of life and care for every child and young person with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. \nThis specialist field has seen significant growth as the benefits of high quality palliative input is increasingly recognised such as allowing children\, young people and their families to have access to respite care and advocating their choices in terms of where they want to receive end of life care. \nThe Children’s Holistic Integrated Palliative Care Service (CHIPS) based at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle covers the entire North East and North Cumbria region. They provide expert support\, advice and guidance whilst engaging with those looking after children with life limiting and life threatening conditions. \nAs part of their role the team offer training and educational support to help build knowledge\, skills and confidence. SUMMARY:Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgical Trainee Casting Course – December 2026
DESCRIPTION:During this two day course delegates will learn the basic casting techniques and skills specifically required for CPD surgical trainees development within the NHS. \nOverview\nThis course covers the basic principles of casting techniques and skills specifically required for surgical trainees’ continuing professional development in the NHS. \nIt will explore the appropriate prescriptions relating to injury including the safe application of backslabs as well as full casts with manipulation techniques. \nDelivery of the course comprises a range of presentations and workshop learning led by specialists in their field. The hybrid theoretical and practice approach includes regular Q&A sessions\, assessment and periods of reflection\, all designed to support delegates to understand and consider: \n\nthe professional accountability and legal issues associated with cast application;\nthe theoretical basis to justify the decision making process in the selection of the appropriate casting technique\, focusing on prescription\, materials\, positioning\, and application process;\nthe anatomy of upper and lower limb trauma and orthopaedic injury conservative management;\nthe clinical knowledge and practical skills required to perform safe casting technique practiced in workshop conditions.\n\nLearning outcomes\nBy the end of the course\, the delegate will be able to: \n\nexplain how the knowledge and skills gained will develop their current competence;\napply anatomy and physiology in a trauma and orthopaedic setting implementing the correct immobilisation techniques;\ncreate and evaluate a prescription plan\, demonstrating the appropriate selection and application of materials and casting technique;\ndemonstrate in a workshop setting practical competence in the safe removal of a cast;\ninterpret the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Casting Guidelines specific to prescription and application making sound judgements and applying these to practice.\n\nAudience\nWhilst aimed at Surgical Trainees CT2 and above\, we welcome applications from experienced members of T&O MDTs. \nFees\n£300 \nDates and times\nDay One: Monday 14 December 2026\n8:30am to 5:00pm \nDay Two: Tuesday 15 December 2026\n8:30am to 5:00pm \nVenue\nEldon Court\n2 Percy Street\nNewcastle upon Tyne\nNE1 7YE \nFinancial information\nIf you are employed by Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust\, you can use the coupon code NUTH at the checkout to make a provisional booking and you will need to arrange access to in-house development funding.
