SUMMARY:Management and Care of Paediatric Tracheostomies - October 2026
DESCRIPTION:As the number of paediatric tracheostomies rises\, so does the need for close observation by clinicians who have completed competency skills in tracheostomy management and care.  \n✨ This interactive one day course allows delegates to gain an awareness of the anatomy and physiology of the paediatric airway as well as tracheostomy management\, from insertion to de-cannulation. \n✨ It includes 3 skill station group activities followed by 5 simulation scenarios to enable assessment of knowledge and skills towards being ‘Tracheostomy Safe’. \n✨ When delegates have subsequently completed their Tracheostomy Competencies they will then be deemed ‘Tracheostomy Competent’ and receive a certificate. \nLearning outcomes\n\nSuction\, cleaning and changing of a tracheostomy\nUse of a tracheostomy wedge and suction of patient\nPatient tracheostomy change using Marpac and Velcro ties\nUnplanned tracheostomy change\nEmergency tracheostomy change\n\nWe will also look at how the multi-disciplinary team provide care for patients with tracheostomies. \nPre-course materials\nA pre-course workbook on Paediatric Tracheostomy Management will be sent out to delegates to be completed before commencement of the course as an initial assessment. \nFollowing attendance staff will be considered ‘Tracheostomy Safe’. SUMMARY:Methods of Wound Debridement - November 2026

SUMMARY:Paediatric Palliative Care Study Day for Hospice Staff - December 2026
DESCRIPTION:This face to face course led by the regional Children’s Holistic Integrated Palliative Care Service (CHIPS) is designed to support staff working in hospices caring for children across the North East and North Cumbria. \nIntroduction\nPaediatric palliative care is about promoting the best possible quality of life and care for every child and young person with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. \nThis specialist field has seen significant growth as the benefits of high quality palliative input is increasingly recognised such as allowing children\, young people and their families to have access to respite care and advocating their choices in terms of where they want to receive end of life care. \nThe Children’s Holistic Integrated Palliative Care Service (CHIPS) based at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle covers the entire North East and North Cumbria region. They provide expert support\, advice and guidance whilst engaging with those looking after children with life limiting and life threatening conditions. \nAs part of their role the team offer training and educational support to help build knowledge\, skills and confidence.
