SUMMARY:One-day Paediatric ECG and Arrhythmia - March 2025
DESCRIPTION:This full day interactive\, scenario based course will take delegates through the practical aspects of paediatric ECG interpretation and provide strategies for management and treatment options. \nAttendees will learn about the best clinical pathways\, and gain the essential skills and confidence needed to recognise and interpret ECG changes in the clinical setting\, helping to identify a range of arrhythmias – from minor to major pathologies. \nWe will cover situations commonly encountered in clinical practice\, such as: \n\nECG in conditions such as arrhythmias\, chest pain\, dizziness and fainting\, and others\nECG and medications\n\nwith added emphasis on: \n\nnormal variants and common findings\nwhat not to miss\nmeasuring the QT and recognising T wave abnormalities\n\nWe will also explore the question “Can I trust the automatic report?” and will use worked examples throughout. \nPlease note: basic ECG knowledge is required\, ie. understanding that ECGs measure electrical activity\, and what P\, QRS and T waves represent. \nLearning outcomes\nBy the end of this course you will be able to: \n\nidentify normal ECG findings in children and neonates\nidentify abnormal ECGs including arrhythmias\, inherited arrhythmia syndromes\, potential medication effects\nunderstand the approach to syncope and chest pain in children\, and when referral to a cardiologist is indicated.\n\nPre course learning resources will be sent out following registration. \nCourse leads\nDr Neil Seller is a leading consultant paediatric cardiologist specialising in paediatric arrhythmia and electrophysiology (EP) at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital. \nAudience\nThe course is aimed at both qualified and trainee staff and would be particularly suitable for those working in: \n\npaediatrics\nneonatology\nemergency and urgent care\ncritical care\n\nAs well as doctors we very much welcome bookings from advanced nurse practitioners and allied health professionals. \nBasic ECG knowledge is required. \nPayment\nPayments should where possible be made via the online booking system. \nIf you request an invoice at the point of booking\, invoice payment terms are strictly 30 days from the invoice date or 7 days before the start of the event\, or the date specified on the course booking page – whichever date is the earliest. \nCancellation and refunds policy\nShould you no longer be able to attend the event on the booked date\, please contact the Academy as we may be able to offer an alternative date subject to an admin charge. \nShould you still wish to cancel your booking\, you or your employer will be charged as per the fees outlined below. \n\n\n\nTimescale\nFee paying course\n\n\nOver 6 weeks\n£25 admin charge\n\n\n2 to 6 weeks\n50% of course fee\n\n\n0 to 2 weeks\n100% of course fee\n\n\n\nIf you do not attend on the day\, you will be charged the full cost of the event place. \nSee our Terms & Conditions and Cancellations & Refunds pages for more details. \nBooking\nTo book a place on this course go to Tickets at the bottom of the page. \nAt checkout you can make an online card payment. \nPlease see the Making payments & Coupons sections of the Help and FAQs.

SUMMARY:Paediatric Palliative Care Study Day for Hospice Staff - March 2025
DESCRIPTION:This face to face course led by the regional Children’s Holistic Integrated Palliative Care Service (CHIPS) is designed to support staff working in hospices caring for children across the North East and North Cumbria. \nIntroduction\nPaediatric palliative care is about promoting the best possible quality of life and care for every child and young person with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. \nThis specialist field has seen significant growth as the benefits of high quality palliative input is increasingly recognised such as allowing children\, young people and their families to have access to respite care and advocating their choices in terms of where they want to receive end of life care. \nThe Children’s Holistic Integrated Palliative Care Service (CHIPS) based at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle covers the entire North East and North Cumbria region. They provide expert support\, advice and guidance whilst engaging with those looking after children with life limiting and life threatening conditions. \nAs part of their role the team offer training and educational support to help build knowledge\, skills and confidence.
