SUMMARY:Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgical Trainee Casting Course - October 2024
DESCRIPTION:During this two day course delegates will learn the basic casting techniques and skills specifically required for trauma and orthopaedic settings within the NHS.  \nOverview\nThis course explore the appropriate prescription relating to injury including the safe application of backslabs as well as full casts with manipulation techniques. \nDelivery of the course comprises a range presentations and workshop learning led by specialists in their field: \n\nMr Dan Hipps\, Trauma and Orthopaedics\nMr Phil Dobson\, Trauma and Orthopaedics (Consultant)\nPaul Maher\, Senior Orthopaedic Practitioner\nDani Hodgson\, Orthopaedic Practitioner\n\nThe hybrid theoretical and practice approach includes regular Q&A sessions\, assessment and periods of reflection\, all designed to support delegates to understand and consider: \n\na summary of the professional accountability and legal issues associated with cast application;\nthe theoretical basic to justify the decision making process in the selection of the appropriate casting technique\, focusing on prescription\, materials\, positioning\, and application process;\nan overview revision of the anatomy of upper and lower limb trauma and orthopaedic injury conservative management;\nthe clinical and knowledge and practical skills required to perform safe casting technique practiced in workshop conditions.\n\nLearning outcomes\nBy the end of the course\, the delegate will be able to: \n\nexplain how the knowledge and skills gained will develop their current competence;\napply anatomy and physiology in trauma and orthopaedic setting relating to the application of the correct immobilisation techniques;\nimplement and evaluate a prescription plan\, demonstrating the appropriate selection and application of materials and casting technique;\ndemonstrate in a workshop setting practical competence in the safe removal of a cast;\ninterpret the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Casting Guidelines specific to prescription and application making sound judgements and applying these to practice.\n\nAudience\nWhilst aimed at Surgical Trainees CT2 and above\, we welcome applications from experienced members of T&O MDTs. \nFees\n£225 \nDates and times\nDay One: Thursday 31 October 2024\n9:00am to 5:00pm \nDay Two: Friday 1 November 2024\n9:00am to 5:00pm \nVenue\nEldon Court\n2 Percy Street\nNewcastle upon Tyne\nNE1 7YE \nBooking\nTo book a place on this course go to Tickets at the bottom of the page. \nAt checkout you can make an online card payment or enter a coupon code to make alternative payment arrangements. \nAlternative payment arrangements include: \n\nrequesting an invoice (INVOICE)\,\nThe Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff internal funding (NUTH) – you will need to complete a Trust study leave form.\n\nPlease see the Making payments & Coupons sections of the Help and FAQs.
