The Department of Radiology is delighted to welcome a set of adult anatomical ‘Phantoms’ for both the Freeman Hospital and RVI.
This exciting procurement has been made possible through the support and CPD funding secured through the Newcastle Clinical Skills Academy.
The phantoms will be an invaluable tool for the further training and development of our undergraduate radiography, assistant practitioners and students.
Diane Charlton, Clinical Learning Facilitator for Radiology at Newcastle Hospitals explains “The phantoms provide a representation of both internal organs and skeletal bone structure which means they can be used to demonstrate complex imaging examinations without the radiation risk to a patient.
“As well as a fantastic, interactive educational, we will also be using the phantoms to investigate the lowest possible dose to achieve an adequate image, and as a result optimise all of our plain film exposures. This has the effect of reducing the overall dose received by individual patients, and the population as a whole.”
The phantoms will also make a great addition to our careers days, and pop-up hospitals helping us to publicise this exciting and diverse profession for those seeking a career in healthcare but aren’t sure which field to pursue.
