As a member of our 250 strong Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Support Workforce you are crucial in supporting the nine AHP professions at Newcastle Hospitals to deliver services across a range of specialities, within acute and community-based services.
You may be aligned to and work in one AHP profession or your role may deliver in more than one area of therapy/rehabilitation.
Personal and professional development
Engaging in CPD and development activity is important for you both personally and professionally. It supports you to deliver excellent care to patients and develop as an individual.
Your CPD activity should be guided by you, your team and the wider service. You will hopefully have access to regular and varied in-service training as part of your specialty team/service, facilitated by your supervisors, mentors and team.
When you are new into post, and at regular intervals as you continue in your role, you will engage in competency-based assessments and training that your team will support you to achieve. This will help to maintain your competence and confidence in your practice.
Framework
NHS England Workforce, Training and Education (formerly Health Education England) have recently produced an AHP support worker competency, education and career development framework.
Taking some time to read and explore this document will help you to identify development objectives against a set of eight domains:
- Formal knowledge and experience
- Supporting service users
- Clinical, technical and scientific roles and responsibilities
- Communication and information
- Safe and inclusive environments
- Research and service improvement
- Leadership
- Personal and professional values and behaviours
It may be a useful document to refer to in your supervision and appraisal. The link can be found here:
