All Allied Health Professionals are members of the Health and Care Professions Council and are required to meet the Council’s 5 CPD standards:
- Maintain a continuous, up-to-date and accurate record of CPD activities
- Demonstrate that CPD activities are a mixture of different types of learning relevant to current or future practice
- Seek to ensure the CPD has contributed to the quality of their practice and service delivery
- Seek to ensure that their CPD benefits the service user
- Upon request, present a written profile of their own work, backed with evidence, explaining how they have met the Standards for CPD
Any activity from which you learn or develop professionally can be considered eligible for CPD, though you should ensure that these complement your practice and enhance the service you provide.
CPD activities must include a mixture of different types of learning, so you’ll need to carry out at least two different types of activity. These may relate to:
Work-based learning | Professional activity | Formal education | Self-directed learning |
Reflective practice | Lecturing, teaching, tutoring, mentoring or examining | Further education / courses | Reading journals and articles |
Coaching from others | Giving presentations at conferences | Distance or on-line learning | Reviewing books or articles |
Peer reviews, project work, audits and case studies | Being involved in a professional body or specialist interest group | Research | Updating knowledge |
Secondments, job rotation or work shadowing | Organising accredited courses | Writing articles or papers | Public service or voluntary work |
Supervising staff or students | Supervising research or students | Attending conferences and seminars
Being a representative on a committee | Organising journal clubs or other specialist interest groups | Planning or running a course
Being an expert witness or national assessor |
Updating your CPD profile
Keeping an up to date file of progress which documents your activities and achievements so that you have this to hand at any time should you be asked to provide it.
